Moong Dal Sambar / Siru Paruppu Sambar



Ingredients:


Mustard - 1 ½ tsp

Urad dal - 1tsp

Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Onion - 2 medium slit lengthwise

Tomato - 1 medium chopped

Green chillies - 7 slit (Adjust according to spice)

Coriander leaves - a few chopped

Moong dal - 1/3 cup washed and drained

Ghee - For taste



Instructions:


  1. Add 5 tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves and green chillies. Saute for a while.

  1. Add onions and saute till soft.

  1. Add tomatoes and saute for a while.

  1. Add turmeric powder and salt to it.

  1. Saute for a while and add in washed moong dal, 1 cup of water in the pressure cooker.

  1. Pressure cook for 1 whistle in high flame and leave it on for 5 minutes in low flame.

  2. Open the pressure cooker when pressure subsides. Mash and mix the sambar. Add a little water to adjust the consistency and boil for 10 minutes on low flame. 

  3. Add in coriander leaves and serve with hot idlies or dosa.
